Productivity

Body
  • Get up at 5 am.
  • Start your day with at least 30 minutes of exercise.
  • Drink a liter of water early every morning. We wake up dehydrated and energy-less.
Technology
  • Don’t check your email first thing in the morning.
  • Turn all your electronic notifications off.
  • Don’t answer your phone every time it rings.
  • Turn off all technology for 60 minutes a day and focus on doing your most important work.
Time Management
  • Take one day a week as a complete recovery day, (that means no email, no phone calls and zero work).
  • Workers are interrupted every 11 minutes. Say no to interruptions.
  • Schedule every day of your week every Sunday morning. A plan relieves you of the torment of choice.
  • Work in blocks of time, fully engaged with deep concentration: key trait of creative geniuses
  • Work in 90 minute cycles (tons of science is now confirming that this is the optimal work to rest ratio).
Other
  • Have meetings standing up.
  • Avoid gossip and time vampires.
  • Touch paper just once.
  • Keep a “Stop Doing List”.

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane hit on Saturday night. After a restless night of sleep, Nicole and I went downstairs to check out the damage. We opened the front door to see 4 of the Walsh's giant pines snapped at the midsection and lying on top of the bamboo and almost across the driveway. The air had a strong pine scent.

We both stared at the mess. As Nicole took in the scene, the first words out of her mouth were, "Cool, it smells just like Christmas!"
